The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, has cautioned young people against turning to drugs as a way of coping with life’s challenges.
In his Easter message, Kaziimba warned that increasing numbers of youth are resorting to substance abuse for comfort, a trend he said is destroying lives and undermining their future.
“This trend threatens the future, health and spiritual well-being of those abusing drugs,” he said.
The Archbishop delivered the message as the Lent comes to an end, a time that precedes the celebration of Easter.
He revealed that the Church of Uganda has commissioned a programme aimed at combating drug abuse in its schools and universities.
The initiative includes a training manual designed to equip school administrators, chaplains, and teachers with practical and faith-based tools to guide students.
“Through the drug prevention programme of the Church of Uganda, the training manual will provide a practical and faith-based framework to equip school administration, chaplains, and teachers with tools to offer guidance,” Kaziimba said.
He also called on parents to play a more active role in addressing drug abuse, particularly within school environments, emphasizing that the fight against the vice requires a collective effort from families, educators, and religious leaders.
